Abdul Rahman escaped to Italy with some help from International sources.  Thanks to all involved in making it happen.  The good news from Yahoo News (hat tip to LGF for the link):

The Afghan man who faced the death penalty for converting from Islam to Christianity received asylum in Italy Wednesday, despite requests by lawmakers in Afghanistan that he be barred from fleeing the conservative Muslim country.

Abdul Rahman arrived in Rome days after he was freed from a high-security prison on the outskirts of Kabul after a court dropped charges of apostasy against him for lack of evidence and suspected mental illness.

Even in Italy Abdul Rahman will have to change his name and assume some sort of new identity to hide from those who will doubtlessly try to hunt him down and execute him for this insult to Allah and Mohammed.  I hope he survives to enjoy life in Italy.

This looks like the best result for the fate of this one principled man that could be arranged.  He’d have a better chance at a good and safe life here in the U.S. though, and I hope we invited him.  Best wished to Abdul Rahman in his new life.
