The news keeps coming from multiple sources that unless the developed world acts soon that the Palestinian Authority will very soon go bankrupt and sink the whole situation into chaos. For those who might not follow the news that much, this is happening because for a time most governments cut off funding them because the Palestinians voted the terrorist group Hamas into power in their Parliament in the first ever fair vote for them. There had been votes before but they were complete sham elections rigged by the now departed Yassar Arrafat and his Fatah faction. The first time the Palestinian people had to actually choose their leaders they immediately chose the terrorist group most perceived as being unbendingly dedicated to the destruction of Israel and the Jews. This is being spun in the West as being that the people voted for ‘honest government’ since Hamas is seen as being honorable and sincerely motivated by religious duty and beliefs, and while that is partially true the central focus of that duty and those beliefs centers on conquering Israel and killing all the Jews. But cutting off the elected government of the Palestinians means effectively killing what little economy exists for them since they have almost no business per se and live almost entirely on the charity of the international community. So we get breathless reports from international diplomats like this one printed in the Washington Post :
A special Middle East envoy, James D. Wolfensohn, has warned international donors that the Palestinian Authority could collapse within two weeks unless fresh funding can be found to pay salaries, clear overdue energy bills and sustain government services financed largely by foreign aid.
In a letter Saturday to senior diplomats from the group of peace interlocutors known as the quartet — Russia, the United States, the European Union and the United Nations — Wolfensohn said Israel’s decision to withhold revenue from the sales tax and customs fees it collects for the Palestinian Authority had pushed the caretaker government to the brink of insolvency.
Its always so easy for all these people to just blame everything on the Jews, being that anti-semitism is becoming increasingly fashionable in the international community in recent years. Along with opposing the Great Satan the US, it is fashionable to hate the ‘Little Satan’ and all of its residents. Of course Israel refuses to give money to the very people spending all their time organizing suicide bombings of busses and pizza parlors with their women and children inside. No nation in their right minds would give funds directly to the enemy. Why should any civilized nation give money directly to an organization which publicly supports intentionally killing as many innocent people as they can?
And what is the likely result of the financial failure deemed drastic enough to give money directly to the organized murdering cult Hamas? The WP article has the details (emphasis added):
"If we don’t get this right, I am afraid past investment in the Palestinian development will be lost, a Palestinian economy will not be sustainable, the Palestinian people will live off humanitarian handouts, and security for both Palestinians and Israelis will be in greater jeopardy than it has been for years," Wolfensohn wrote.
Oh heaven forbid, the calamity. Lets take these in order.
The past investments in the Palestinian development were overwhelmingly diverted to Swiss bank accounts by Arrafat and his cronies to start with, the Palestinian people have benefitted almost nothing from all of the money spent. There is no serious development of an economy that has occurred and there can not be until the Palestinian people find something more productive to do than focus on trying to kill Israelis. They obviously are not interested in that yet so ‘development’ is a moot point, and if anything will just prolong the conflict by supporting their efforts against Israel.
Even more silly is the statement that the Palestinian economy will not be sustainable, because it isn’t sustainable NOW. The only thing keeping food on the table for the Palestinian masses is international charity.
We enter the land of the bazaar when the statement of consequences continues with the worry that Palestinians will live on handouts if the PA goes bankrupt…. he is describing the situation they have lived in for more than 50 years! Multiple successive generations of Palestinians have been raised knowing absolutely no other way THAN living off of ‘humanitarian handouts’. And they have used that neverending subsidy to foster volcanic hatred of the Jews and Israel in their population. Perhaps the largest obstacle to the Palestinians deciding to make a deal for peace is that they don’t need to, there has been no downside to continuing armed conflict while the world paid them sit at home and plan murderous atrocities.
Concluding with worries that the security situation will worsen if HAMAS is not given hundreds of millions of dollars in continuing funds has this writer wondering if Mr. Wolfensohn has had a sudden dramatic break with reality and needs immediate psychiatric help. Because that statement is absolutely INSANE. Insane. Not giving money to a terrorist group will have one certain effect… deprive them of more funds to buy materials and labor to kill more Israelis. The truth is the exact polar opposite of the suggestion in the article, the truth is that giving money to terrorists is certain to make the security situation worse for all.
The efforts of international diplomats and ‘humanitarians’ to keep funding the Palestinians are horribly misguided and will only drive hopes for peace further from any hope of reality. Supporting the Palestinians when they clearly choose terrorists as leaders will enforce their choice and lead to much more violence and death. The only possibility that there will ever be peace in the region is that Palestinians decide they would rather make a deal and live peaceful lives. They clearly aren’t there yet, and we shouldn’t help them continue their campaign of terror.
